‘Under siege’ hospitality sector in Parnell and Newmarket calls for support
Business leaders in Parnell and Newmarket want the government to provide urgent support for the hospitality sector, following the announcement of Delta Level 2 restrictions outside of Auckland.
Parnell Business Association spokesperson Cheryl Adamson said the new restrictions are totally unworkable for the hospitality sector.
“If the rules announced for the rest of the country are what the Auckland hospitality sector has to look forward to in coming weeks, we’re going to see many more outlets shut up shop and become forced out of business.”
The Newmarket and Parnell Business Associations have requested the government provide rent support, increase resurgence support payments and work to reduce crime caused by the economic downturn.
Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?
With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.
