For the past two months, there’s been a huge demand for food parcels from local charities around the country. Find out what we’ve been doing behind the scenes to support these charities who are helping New Zealanders get back on their feet.

(PS – we want to say a special ‘thank you’ to all of you who have made a donation at your local store. Your generous support is helping keep New Zealanders fed.)

Hi Neighhours,

It's been a tough last few weeks, right? When life gets hard and the world gets scary, it's our loved ones we turn to for support.

But this extraordinary coronavirus pandemic is different. Many of us can't see our most special friends and whānau because we want to keep them safe, and we want to get through this as a nation by following social distancing and Covid-19 Alert Level 3 rules.

While thousands of people are returning to work, visiting friends and family outside of your bubble may still be off the cards for some time longer.

Do you have a message for someone you can't see in person? A shout out to a sibling or best friend? A much-loved and missed grandparent? A new baby you need to virtually cuddle?

Level 3 Love Letters is an opportunity to share a video message for a loved one on Stuff.

You can upload your video here so we can share it with them and New Zealand

When the hip joint loses its stability from its supporting structures from small, micro-injuries, damage to the joint can occur.

Hip pain is a common complaint that can be caused by a wide variety of problems. The precise location of your hip pain can provide valuable clues about the underlying cause.
Problems within the hip joint itself tend to result in pain on the inside of your hip or your groin. Hip pain on the outside of your hip, upper thigh or outer buttock is usually caused by problems with muscles, ligaments, tendons and other soft tissues that surround your hip joint.

Hip pain can sometimes be caused by diseases and conditions in other areas of your body, such as your lower back. This type of pain is called referred pain

SYMPTOMS OF HIP PAIN

There are many causes of hip pain and this pain can occur anywhere around the joint. Pain can occur on the inside or outside of the hip and it can extend to the thigh, groin and buttocks. Where the pain is situated usually depends on the underlying cause.

-Dull ache
-Groin or buttock pain, which may radiate down the leg
-Pain and discomfort on the outside of the hip with pressure
-Giving way or a painful limp
-Stiffness and limited range of motion
-A popping noise or locking sensation
-Pain that gets worse with activity

DIAGNOSING YOUR HIP PAIN

A variety of conditions, injuries and diseases can cause chronic hip pain. A few of the most common ones we see among :

1. Tendinitis – there are many tendons from the buttock and upper thigh that attach around the hip joint
2.Osteorthritis
3.Trochanteric Bursitis
4.Hip Fracture
5.Labral Tear
6.Sprains and Strains of the ligaments and muscles around the hip joint

Our first step is to determine what’s causing your hip pain. Hip pain is often complex and frequently involves the lower back and surrounding ligaments, tendons and muscles. It can also occur from asymmetry involving the lower extremity joints such as feet, ankles and knees. We no know that joint dysfunction occurs due to joint instability, which puts strain and pressure on the surrounding structures of a joint. It is no different for the hip joint. We use our advanced skills in musculoskeletal ultrasound to visualise statically and dynamically potential causes of your hip pain.
TREATING YOUR HIP PAIN

The treatment that best suits each patient depends on the nature of the problem. We specialise in using regenerative medicine techniques to treat your hip pain, including:

Prolotherapy treatments involve injecting a solution containing sugar or ozone to boost your body’s healing responses and create new, healthy tissues.

PRP therapy uses powerful cells harvested from the patient’s body to stimulate new cell growth and optimise the repair of damaged tissues.

Ultrasound-guided Injections of Corticosteroid can result in good symptomatic relief in many cases while getting the rehabilitation program with your physical therapist, is another viable option.

Our focus is utilising our treatments and rehabilitation programs towards healing the root cause of your injury or condition without the need for surgery. We don’t believe in a quick fix, one-size fits all approach. Instead, we treat all the structures involved in your condition and enjoy working with our patients to achieve the best outcomes to help them return to normal function and a healthier lifestyle as quickly as possible.

There will be no live gigs (in person at least) and no congregating in our favourite music venues to celebrate the wonder of local music together. These times will come again. But like many others, the music industry will be challenged by the Covid-19 pandemic and its impact.

To show our support for New Zealand music we are sharing some of our favourite posters showcasing Auckland bands and iconic Auckland music venues. These posters offer a glimpse into Auckland’s anarchic, door-kicking punk and new-wave scenes that stomped their way into the city’s late 70s - early 80s musical landscape.

These posters also show how music venues changed and morphed over time, shedding their previous identities and inhabiting new ones. For example, the iconic Edinburgh Castle Hotel on the corner of Symonds Street and Newton Road has had many identities over its 160 years and for the briefest of moments, it was the “notorious” Liberty Stage.

New Zealand Music Month celebrates 20 years this year. For this, and plenty more NZ Music Month discoveries, take a look here.

From 11am NZST on Thursday 30 April until Sunday 17 May, Artfair.co.nz will be hosting a Virtual Art Fair where you will discover more than 30 galleries from New Zealand and Australia displaying works that would have otherwise been seen at the 2020 Auckland Art Fair.

The Virtual Art Fair is in recognition of the artists who have already made special works for the Auckland Art Fair that couldn’t happen, and the galleries who have supported them in doing so.

“It comes at a time of global uncertainty, when the importance of art, community and culture are especially apparent,” their team said in a recent statement.

The Auckland Art Fair is designed to be “a celebration – as best we can – of the talent and diversity of art making by artists from our region; not only across New Zealand and Australia, but also around the wider Pacific-rim. We hope that, wherever possible, some of these artists and galleries will be supported by someone buying a work of art.”

Browse, look, enquire and consider as you get to know new galleries and artists in support of contemporary culture at a time when the artists and galleries really need it.

Find out more at www.artfair.co.nz.
