Did you know??
What happens when you use one of those big green plastic garden waste bags you get from hardware stores? I always assumed that the firm picks them up from your home, takes to the dump, empties them, cleans them and puts them back in the market. See photo from the Rosedale dump.
I asked one of the staff what happens to them. He told me that at the end of each day, they use one of the diggers to reach up, grab the bag by a corner, shake it empty, then it goes into the waste material, not recycled at all.
So if you are a conservationist, you may want to think again about using these. I put a big plastic cover in my boot with rear seats folded down, take our green waste to the dump. Cost me $27 today for a big load. Or perhaps you have family or friend with a towbar and trailer?
Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
