Coffee's On Us!
Hey Neighbours,
Julie here from 5050CafeFriends. At 5050, we turn online friends into real-life (cafe) friends and believe that technology is a good thing when it is put to good use to further enhance our lives. So we're combining online(ness) with real-life(ness) and would like to let you know that we have just updated our offer to include customers as well as cafes. How so?
We now offer a cafe's customers a free coffee on us (or beverage to the value of $5.50) when they join 5050 as a Friend for $12.99 per month (by scanning the 'Scan Me!' A4 on display at The Coffee Club, Mission Bay) this gives people the opportunity to support their local cafe (as the cafe in this case - The Coffee Club, Mission Bay will receive the beverage payment) plus ongoing monthly rewards.
Once you have joined 5050 as a Friend, you will also be able to select The Coffee Club, Mission Bay's 5050 Listing to send an invite out to meet other people from your area or who share your interests and meet-them (either in a group (stay safe) or in a one-on-one). And yes, you are notified on the website and by email when other people join as friends from your area or share your interests. You can also auto-renew, deactivate or cancel your subscription at any time.
We've chosen The Coffee Club, Mission Bay because not only is it a great place with a great view, the staff are also friendly and helpful.
And don't worry, we're trialling this system and not about to ignore you if things go slightly pear shaped! Just Contact Us via the Contact form on our website. We're here to help, listen and learn.
Steps:
1/ Scan the 'Scan Me!' image on display at The Coffee Club, Mission Bay
2/ Join 5050 as a Friend
3/ Send out your coffee invites.
4/ Meet up with Friends.
5/ When you are ready, you can show your 'Thank you for joining 5050' email to The Coffee Club staff to redeem your beverage offer.
* If you think other cafes would be interested in this offer, please message us to let us know and we'll contact them to let them know how easy it is for them to Join 5050 as a Cafe (free).
Thanks,
Poll: Should all neighbours have to contribute to improvements?
An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.
When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?

What is happening to our services?
Hi Neighbours
I'm concerned as to the level of services in our city, while our rates keep going up!
A short while ago we had 3 bins damaged in 1 rubbish-day pick-up. It took close to 6 weeks to resolve and I had to repeatedly follow-up progress as the case was closed 2x without any action - one of those instances stated they "couldn't find the bins" but they had never moved from the kerb side they are collected from since they got damaged.
Similarly I reported a small water leak on 1-Aug to Watercare just outside our property, on council land. I heard nothing back and the stream of water running grew and grew. I followed it up last week, only to be told it had been thoroughly investigated and it was not a Watercare issue. If I wanted to resolve it, I could pay a plumber. Yesterday I saw the water reader and said to him the running water is a problem - he agreed. I re-reported it and today it is being fixed - by Watercare - as it is gushing. They repairers assured me it is for sure a Watercare issue.
What can we do about this? We don't pay faulty money - but we get faulty service. It's not good enough.
What's your favourite recipe for courgettes?
Kia ora neighbours. If you've got a family recipe for courgettes, we'd love to see it and maybe publish it in our magazine. Send your recipe to mailbox@nzgardener.co.nz, and if we use it in the mag, you will receive a free copy of our January 2025 issue.
