Police operation: reducing vehicle theft in Waitemata.

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Today, Operation Volume Crime Response Team will begin focusing on vehicle theft in the Waitemata area. A dedicated local Police team will be targeting offenders across the area who are committing vehicle theft over the next three months.

Sergeant Jon Winthrop says Police know from past experience, that the next few months are particularly prevalent for car crime and are proactively targeting these offenders,

“It is upsetting and inconvenient for members of our community to be victims of this type of crime. If we catch these offenders we can actively reduce the impact this has on people who are victims,” he said.

Offenders will often target a number of cars in close proximity which causes a spike in car crime in those areas. Often when vehicles are stolen they are used to commit further offences such as burglary and aggravated robbery and this operation is aiming to reduce volume related crime.

Operation Volume Crime Response Team will run from June 18 to September 28.
