Savouring enjoyable things helps your mind

Eve from Eve Rudkin Mindfulness

On Tuesday night there was a beautiful sunset and life was good as I looked over the city and Orakei Basin. Then that night the news came through about the new COVID cluster. Today I looked at the photo and remembered neuroscientist Rick Hansen’s advice to really savour any pleasant experience. He says the brain is like Velcro for negative experiences, but Teflon for positive ones – we remember negative things more easily than positive things.
He suggests that we ‘tilt towards the good’ in order to level the playing field. He says if we spend time savouring and enjoying a good experience, more neurons fire and thus wire together, actually changing our brains for the better. So in these challenging times, see if you can "Take in the good" to balance things out. Take care - Eve
