Personal message about supporting your local
For mother’s day this year my husband arranged for DeFora Café Garnet Road, to cater an evening meal for our family. A menu was sent by email with a wide selection of choices. I ordered pork belly which was cooked perfectly; creamy scalloped potatoes and a really yummy roast beetroot and haloumi salad. The vinaigrette dressing for the salad was to die for!
For dessert we ordered the sweet platter which had chocolate, fresh fruit and a selection of homemade slices that kept us going back for more over the following two evenings. The food was epic, servings generous and pricing very fair.
I wanted to acknowledge and thank Beth and Steve at DeFora for making mother’s day a real treat. I highly recommend their catering service – I can see it will make entertaining a breeze.

Tapu (Sacredness) and Noa (Balance) - Day 18
The Sacred Spring of Waiora
A sacred spring hidden in the forest was said to have healing powers but was tapu (restricted) to those with ill intent. One day, a chief's child fell ill, and the community approached the spring with prayers and offerings, guided by a tohunga (spiritual leader). Through their humility and respect for the tapu, the child was healed. The spring remained sacred, but the balance of noa (everyday access) allowed it to serve as a source of hope for the people.
Moral: Respect for sacredness maintains balance and harmony between the spiritual and physical worlds.
