Titirangi Choir seeking members
Titirangi Chamber Choir is seeking new members in all sections (SATB). We are a non affiliated, not for profit choir whose purpose is to be of service to the community, taking live music to charitable institutions such as rest homes and hospitals as well as local arts venues. We sing for joy and our purpose is to generate uplifting music in these difficult times. Our repertoire includes a lot of Renaissance and other classical music; also gospel, world, folk and contemporary. Choral experience is good but not essential. We are a reading choir so some ability to read music is a pre-requisite. There is a wide age range - young to ca 65. Rehearsals are in Titirangi on Mondays, 7.15 - 9.15pm. What workplace change would you like to see most?
This coming Monday is Labour Day in New Zealand. This public holiday marks when the eight-hour workday and 48-hour workweek became law in 1899. The idea started with Samuel Parnell, a carpenter in Wellington, who in 1840 refused to work more than eight hours a day. Since skilled workers were in short supply, his employer had to agree.
As more skilled workers arrived, employers tried to change working conditions, but Parnell and others kept pushing for better rights. In 1890, Parnell led a Labour Day parade of 1,500 people to promote the eight-hour day. He passed away shortly after, and nine years later, Labour Day became an official public holiday.

This young man had his first social as Elvis, for the Memories of Elvis Fan Club back in April and we are so excited to announce that he is returning to the Henderson RSA on Sat 16th November.
