39 more speed breakers but not a single extra lane or traffic light to ease traffic

Anjali from Henderson

Unless enough of us object before March 8th, Auckland Transport is going to add 39 more speed bumps among other things to the small area between Lincoln Road, Universal Drive & Swanson Road under the guise of "increasing safety". I suspect this is not to help us but to spend the money before 31st March so that the speed breaker construction company can get it all. If you too feel this money would be better spent on 1) making Universal Drive at the least 4 lanes all though, 2) a free left turn lane (from Universal Drive) onto Lincoln Road (next to Countdown), 3) Another free left turn lane (from Universal Drive) onto Rathgar Road, a sensor traffic light at the same (North end of) Rathgar Road where it meets Universal Drive.
In addition, Pomaria Road needs minimum 2 lanes when entering Lincoln Road so those turning right or going straight are not blocked by the left turning traffic that is waiting for crossing pedestrians.
I am sure you have more suggestions to add.
List of Roads & planned additional speed breakers (bumps) :
Pomaria Road - 5
Longburn Road - 4
Kingdale Road - 3
Larissa - 5
Harrington - 8
MildMay - 3
Edwards -2
Fairdene 4
Pinedale -3
Zodiac - 1
Mawney -1
In the 29 years I have lived in this area, I have never come across a single human death or serious injury due to speeding on any of these roads.
Speedbumps will increase the number of drivers suffering delays and consequently increase road rage, risky behaviour & breaking of rules.
The 5 speedbumps added to Rathgar Road’s 3, caused traffic disruption & inconvenience for months. It resulted in more traffic choosing an already crowded Lincoln Road. Also they are do not fit (too high) the 25K warning sign. They are made for 10K else damage the car.
Speedbumps etc. reduce badly needed and increasing need for street parking.
They add to traffic congestion as each user uses the same road for double the time or more (as 50K speed goes down to 25 or less).
They increase pollution and carbon footprint (more petrol more braking).
When injured, increases spinal pain when travelling even via ambulance.
The increased travel time could mean life or death for any who may need the ambulance/hospital fast

Please make time to do this or we will have to live with this just like the lousy bus route mess & disappearing bus stops unless enough people object. They told me only 12 people objected to the loss of 8 bus stops (Pomaria & Rathgar) and all the rest were happy.
