Vacancy at the Auckland Women's Centre

The team from Auckland Women's Centre

Our beloved Ellie Lim is embarking on an exciting new career!
With great empathy, vision and organisational skills, Ellie has looked after Women's Services and community education incredibly well for more than a decade. We will miss her greatly, but we're pleased she'll be applying her talent and creativity to an exciting new role from early February. And Ellie will stay connected to the Centre and the feminist community because she still loves us!

So, this means we have a full time vacancy for a very special someone to join our team.

Tapu (Sacredness) and Noa (Balance) - Day 18

Kiran Reddy from Mount Eden

The Sacred Spring of Waiora

A sacred spring hidden in the forest was said to have healing powers but was tapu (restricted) to those with ill intent. One day, a chief's child fell ill, and the community approached the spring with prayers and offerings, guided by a tohunga (spiritual leader). Through their humility and respect for the tapu, the child was healed. The spring remained sacred, but the balance of noa (everyday access) allowed it to serve as a source of hope for the people.

Moral: Respect for sacredness maintains balance and harmony between the spiritual and physical worlds.
