We watch captivated by the spectacle of those impressive America's Cup yachts foiling at 40 knots across the Hauraki Gulf, and at the same time, it's hard not to have a salutary reflection on the last 12 months.

Almost to the day, we were celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the New Zealand School of Food and Wine with special wine tastings, cooking classes, forage and gastronomic dinner for over 75 guests + our students. Many of our Christchurch team, including Lois, Philippe and Victoria had come up for the weekend. My mother-in-law, June Hay had also joined us from her retirement home in Christchurch. By Sunday 15 March, I was getting pretty nervous about Covid-19 and rather than have June stay in the North Island for a holiday, she returned home the next day. A few days later June's rest home went into lockdown and I counted the 14 days to see if we too had a NZSFW Covid Cluster. Fortunately not! See below some photos as we recalled the 10th Anniversary of the Christchurch Earthquakes.

We are very fortunate to have the gallery back open this week, enabling us to share our newest exhibition with you.
In anticipation of Greer Twiss’ sculpture Flight Support for Albatross and its upcoming installation on Devonport’s Victoria Wharf, the artist is exhibiting a series of maquettes and early works here at Depot Artspace.
In the company of these miniatures, an artist’s talk scheduled for Saturday 13th of March will offer a rare glimpse into Twiss’ creative process for each iteration of Flight Support for Albatross.

First installed on Quay Street, the sculpture has undergone a series of changes and will be introduced to the wharf in the coming weeks. This satellite exhibition will provide viewers with further context for the work; how it fits thematically into the sculptor’s decades-long practice, what changes have been made since it was first commissioned in 2003, and why Twiss has embraced the current re-siting as an opportunity to re-design the sculpture.

See event page depotartspace.co.nz/event/greer-twiss/ for more info.

Bunions affect 1 in 3 New Zealanders they can lead to pain and discomfort, which affects mobility, balance and quality of life. That’s not to mention the look of them and the difficulty of fitting shoes.

We’ve decided to run a special offer for people with bunions - “Bunion Evaluation” for only $33 (worth $85). Offer valid 12/02/21 - 12/03/21

Many doctors and podiatrists believe that surgery is the only way to fix a bunion. This is not true. Bunion surgery is painful and doesn’t address the underlying cause of a bunion, which is generally the way we walk and stand. Ideally, surgery should be considered as the last treatment option for bunions.

At Corrective Foot Solutions, we use a gentle, hands-on technique to effectively treat and correct bunions – which means there’s no need for surgery or orthotics. We use Foot Mobilisation Therapy to correct the underlying cause of your bunion by working on the misalignments in the foot, as well as strengthening the weakened muscles around the joints.

Hi neighbours. A grove of pōhutukawa trees that were to be axed to make way for new classrooms have been saved from the chop following local outcry.

The Ministry of Education planned to fell the trees – five pōhutukawa and one Norfolk pine – at Campbells Bay School in Auckland early this year.

The plans prompted parents and local residents to launch a petition calling for the trees to be saved, and instead design a building which preserves them.

But this month, the Ministry of Education has shared new plans for the classroom block.

It will be set back an additional 4.5 metres from the school’s fence on Aberdeen Rd, meaning the six trees will remain, with some limited root reduction and canopy trimming.

Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa will match boats and crews in the 36th America's Cup match.

Racing resumes today and Friday under Covid-19 alert level 2 restrictions, with two races per day between 4pm and 6pm.

Defender Emirates Team New Zealand will take on Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli in the battle to win the 36th America's Cup in Auckland.

The first team to win 7 races takes home the Auld Mug.

Auckland Unlimited destination general manager Steve Armitage said despite Auckland's lockdowns delaying the regatta, the city was still expecting a successful final match with support from Auckland and around the country.

“We’ve been waiting for this moment since Team New Zealand’s win in 2017 and it’s finally here," Armitage said.

"While it’s great that there are so many ways to watch from home, you don’t want to miss out on the buzz and atmosphere happening right here in Auckland.

“It has been a challenging period, but Auckland has been here before and we’ve demonstrated our resilience and ability to adapt through tough times like these.”

Under level 2 restrictions, the Race Village will not be activating with screenings of the racing but the surrounding bars and restaurants will remain open.

Armitage said many Summernova events would resume in the weekend if Auckland was shifted to alert level 1.

A virtual performance from Sir Rod Stewart was planned in the lead up to Saturday's racing, he said.

Rock the Dock, a joint venture between Tourism New Zealand and Auckland Unlimited, will see Stewart perform his hit song, ‘Sailing’ virtually from London for all of Auckland and New Zealand to join in.

The event will be beamed onto the big screen in the America’s Cup Race Village on March 13 from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm and will be broadcast by TVNZ.

The singalong will also be screened at Summernova’s Race Days by the Sea, Waterbourne Beach Festival and Kia Kotahi Race Days at Takaparawhau Bastion Point.

If Auckland drops to alert level 1 in time for the weekend's racing, these Summernova festival events will hit the super city:

Waterbourne Beach Festival at Takapuna Beach Reserve, Kia Kotahi Race Days at Takaparawhau, Bastion Point, Race Days by the Sea at Windsor Reserve, Devonport, and Love your Maunga ki Maungauika at Devonport's North Head.

Live music will feature at Komititanga Square and Mission Bay on Saturday and Sunday from 1.30 pm to 6.30 pm, with free face painting and bubble stations for the children.

Dock out shows, cultural displays and entertainment will hit the Race Village under alert level 1.

Are you planning to watch the racing?

Will you go down to see it in person or view it from home?

Who do you think is going to take home the Auld Mug?
