The rebuilt wharf is looking fantastic, with new shelter, seating and bi-lingual signage.
On behalf of the Kaipatiki Local Board, I had the privilege of attending a small pōwhiri with mana whenua this morning, alongside councillors Richard Hills, Chris Darby and representatives of Auckland Transport.
Thankyou to everyone who has advocated over many years for the ferry service to be retained and for the wharf to be enhanced. I know that the Kaipātiki Local Board has been particularly vocal in keeping the service and I thank past and present local board members for that.
Note: Additional piles are due to be added in the coming months, which will allow the ferry to dock from both directions.

The 60-year-old Northcote Point wharf was temporarily closed for health and safety reasons in June 2018 after routine maintenance revealed wooden structural pieces of the wharf had deteriorated.
The wharf was due to reopen on January 25 – a year later than originally planned – but its reopening ceremony was postponed due to the new Covid case in Northland. Ferry sailings were also delayed due to adverse weather and supplier delays.
Following a blessing by Ngāti Whātua on Thursday morning, ferry services resumed and will run between the CBD’s Downtown Ferry Terminal, Northcote and Birkenhead and back to the city again between 6.25am and 11pm, Monday to Friday, with a less frequent timetable at weekends.

Somewhere in New Zealand there is an old-school booklet maker that is no longer used because the modern photocopier has the booklet-making function. I want to buy a booklet-maker and a typical make and model is a Plockmatic 60.
