My editorial in the Eastern Courier, Wednesday, February 15 - Busiest time of year for community events in East Auckland

Phil / PJ Taylor Reporter from Eastern Courier

Calendars at the ready. This is the busiest time of year for community events in East Auckland and this a quick reminder of what's on the agenda in the coming weeks.

And keep reading your Eastern Courier for the news stories about them. Pictures, too!

This Saturday, February 18, the Howick Local Board's Tamaki River Festival is on at Bramley Reserve, Farm Cove, 11am-3pm; while on Sunday, February 27, the Howick Lions in the Park family community event, with entertainment, information and food stalls and activities, is on in Lloyd Elsmore Park, 11am-3pm.

It's the same day as Clevedon Wine and Food Festival, and my favourite, Elvis in the Gardens - Botanic style, baby.

The weekend to be aware of is March 3-5 - Tony Painting and the Power play a Deep Purple tribute at The Good Home, Howick (Smoke on the Bosun's) Mar 3; the Botany Community Day is at Botany Town Centre, Mar 4; with Jo Cotton and the Mermaids' Abba show at the Howick RSA later that evening; while the Brit and Euro Classic Car Show, is at Lloyd Elsmore Park, Mar 5.

And Sunday, March 5, is of course the day of the running of the Ports of Auckland Round the Bays event, see roundthebays.co.nz.

Pace yourselves!

Poll: Is it rude to take a full trolley to self-checkout?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Luckily self-checkout is being pretty common in supermarkets these days and we generally use it to quickly buy a few things without the long lines. But perhaps it's appropriate to head there with your full trolley to skip the lines?

What are your thoughts? Is that rude?

Share in the comments below if this has ever happened to you.

Poll: Have you ever had a scary flight?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

A plane flying from Christchurch to Wellington on Sunday had smoke billowing out of the engine and upon landing, passengers had to open the emergency exit and jump out. Have you had any scary flying experiences?
