Residents urged to prepare for severe weather
Wanaka residents are still busy preparing for the worst weather to hit.
Precautionary flood measures have been planned for Wanaka and Wakatipu lakes as levels remained high overnight, with high alerts recorded at both lakes. A large crew of volunteers have been pitching in around Wanaka to place sandbags around low-lying businesses.
The council says sand and sandbags are available from the Dunmore St car park if needed. The Millennium Track and Outlet Track are also closed. They will stay closed until water levels drop.
