Pensioners back non-driving peers on Auckland's North Shore
A group of Greenwich Gardens residents are transporting their non-driving peers to medical appointments in exchange for a gold coin donation.
Resident Kevin Broadbent came up with the idea when he spotted three village courtesy cars and he rallied together a few willing drivers.
“I immediately thought what a fantastic service to be able to offer non-driving residents, " he said.
"As retirees we’re often looking for things to do, so it’s a way we can use our free time to help others and, while my wife and I are still happily driving, we know there may come a time when we may need this service, too.”
The drivers will take residents to their appointments, wait while they are being seen, and drive them back to the village.
