If shops like Fruit World were open in our neighbourhoods, we would not need to go to our local Park and Save or other supermarkets as frequently. Fruits and vegetables are perishable goods and cannot be stored for long, unlike liquor or canned food or toilet rolls. So we need to get them relatively more frequently.

Further, fruits and vegetables help build up our immunity. Sugar does not. And as a side note, liquor does not help reduce domestic violence incidences either. It sometimes fuels them! And in some cases, it serves as an 'excuse' for some to excuse themselves from incorrigible behaviour, like this fellow who must have had sustained intoxication to actually post this video of himself doing what he did:

www.nzherald.co.nz...

How do we convince the government that shops selling fruits and vegetables should be allowed to open? It better not be that we need (yet another) petition to get this done! Who do we write to?

While our doors are closed, you can still experience some of your favourite parts of Tāmaki Paenga Hira with us here online.

We've pulled together amazing stories, activities, videos and puzzles from our channels and archives into one Museum at Home hub, so you and your family can enjoy the Museum experience outside of our four walls.

Watch how volcanoes are made, make an exotic bird case come alive in a puzzle, read about when The Fiji Times was printed on Masi (bark-cloth) or see some never-before-seen photos of Sir Edmund Hillary and his expeditions.

We have included activities for kids, and for the young at heart, as well as long reads and videos for those who want to deep dive into life at the Museum. We'll be adding new things for you to read, watch and interact with regularly, so make sure to check back in.

Dear concerned citizen,

It’s important that we all try and shop safely as we unite against COVID-19.

Here’s a few things we should all now do, that will help slow the spread of the virus:
• send one person from your household to do the whole shop
• be aware that stores will limit numbers to help you keep 2 metres away from others
• be kind to essential workers, and others you’re sharing the shop with
• come with a list so you can get in and out as quickly as possible
• only touch what you want to buy
• if you like, take a soapy towel in a small container to wipe down trolley or basket handles etc
• keep 2 metres away from others, including staff. They need to keep safe too!
• use payWave if you can, not cash
• bag groceries away from others if you can
• take out produce when you get home, and wash first in soapy water to protect against the virus, then rinse to remove any soap residue wipe down packaged goods with a soapy clean towel, then dry
• wash your hands before and after you shop.

Can I bring people in my household with me to buy essential supplies?
You should dedicate one person per household to be the shopper. This is the safest way to get essential supplies, as it reduces the number of people who are out, and helps stop the virus from spreading.

Leaving online shopping to those who need it most
• If you are healthy, or aged under 70, you should go to the supermarket to do your shopping. This leaves online delivery slots free for those that need them most.
• If you’re a parent on your own with children or over 70, move to online shopping if available. This is important for the safety of your children and others – especially essential service providers.
• If that’s not possible, reach out to nearby friends, family or neighbours who can assist you with the shopping and get it to your doorstep. Your local community may also be able to assist, or you can contact your local store – some are putting special systems in place to help.

Thank you
If we all do our bit we’ll get through this. Thank you for working together and staying home. We can, and must stick with it.

Please just be respectful and cognizant of essential workers, that cannot go out for 2 hour walks, and are given attitudes by people who by driving to work make you feel like you are impacting them. And bottom line if people continue to act like they are, we will not be allowed outside our houses. Sorry working at the hospital , I am doing everything in my power to stay safe in order to serve the community, and myself my family or everyone else on the front lines respect the isolation everyone is in, but also ask for consideration..............we can not afford to have runners/biker's / even walkers , sweating, dropping tiny amounts of fluid , spitting ( not in a bad way, in a way that when you exercise you naturally do/we all do ), the mandate is to stay home, you can do exercise but please keep that within your bubble, your street , don't go for a 2 hour walk between neighbourhoods , walk up and down you street, work out online, Sorry its so sad to say that people in this neighbourhood are not smart enough to actually get whats going on. Northland has closed off areas, we should close off our areas also........ What people are doing, and walking in Lululemon gear, with dogs for hours........ absolutely talks to the fact the you are not getting it.!!!!! and people will die as a result , its not an if its a when......watch the news, stay inside,
Work out online, don't leave your house, a daily walk is not a walk from Rothesay bay to Milford ....... and for all the cyclists and distance runners, every seat drop that happens will contaminate multiple neighbourhoods . DONT DO IT, if you have to run or cycle up and down you road, you bubble, then do that, you must do that, you have to do that. Every drop of sweat, of spit while you exercise could and in the coming weeks will kill someone. Our community are acting like idiots, no-one wants to stay at home, but pushing the limits of "excercise" because for everyone its hard to stay at home, will kill people. You run, you sweat, a little kid rides his scooter over it and takes it home . I don't think people are comprehending the enormity of this, and the fact we are talking about Microparticles for transmission. No long distance walking, cycling, running between anything out of you street should be allowed, and if you you feel thats OK, then you are right now or certainly will be killing people. So If you can live with that in order to have your bike ride or run , then that is entirely on you. Stay inside, stay in your bubble, stay in your bubble to exercise , to walk . A 10 K ride or walk, will be a death sentence for some, just because you need to exercise and in doing that you sweat on the road/footpath........And those droplets will kill people.
