Restoration opportunity
Habitat Hobsonville seeks new coordinator

Habitat Hobsonville has grown over the last two years into a successful community group that makes a significant positive impact on the environment around Hobsonville (including Scott Pt and Ockleston Landing). Habitat Hobsonville has a regular programme of activities including weeding bees, trapping predators and planting natives. The group now needs a new coordinator to lead, measure and communicate the activities and outcomes of the group.

The role is flexible, self-managed and averages 3 to 5 days per month. The coordinator is supported by Auckland Council with training workshops, resources, advice and a grant for wages. If you would like to know more please email habitathobsonville@gmail.com or ph 027 221 3121.

UWEN are lucky to have Dr. Wesley Webb as our second Hui speaker...
Animals use sounds for fighting, flirting, group coordination, signalling identity, scaring off predators and more. Some species develop their sounds automatically. Others (like humans and songbirds) must learn by listening and imitating—which leads to the interesting phenomenon of dialects. Dr Wesley Webb will take us on a tour of the astonishing diversity of acoustic communication in animals, including many native NZ taonga. He will also reveal some surprises about male and female song dialects in New Zealand bellbirds, the topic of his PhD. Brace yourself for weird and wonderful animal sounds!
