This morning we received a report that about 11pm last night, an address had been entered while the residents were home, and at least one bedroom is thought to have been entered while the occupant was asleep in it.
While nothing was taken, the occupants were understandably shaken by the incident, and Police are now working to establish the full circumstances of what has occurred.
Police would like to take the opportunity to remind residents to keep security top of mind and to lock doors and windows at night, even if you're going to be home.
We're asking anyone in the area to please check private CCTV or dashcam footage from around 11pm last night that might have captured any unusual activity. Additionally anyone who was in the area who saw anything that may assist our enquiries is urged to get in touch.
You can call 105 and reference file number 230110/5105, or make a report online at www.police.govt.nz... using the 'update report' function.

Our Patrol will be out assisting Petone Community Patrol with a "Safer Plates" event at Countdown Lower Hutt from 9am on Sunday 11th September.
Come down and get some Tamper-Resistant Screws for your vehicle number plates for a gold coin donation.
Over the past few months, a number of plates have been stolen throughout the Hutt Valley, and this number is on the increase. Stolen plates are being used to switch plates to facilitate crime such as petrol drive offs.
To curb the increase in number plate theft, Community Patrols of New Zealand - CPNZ have produced special screws which require a special driver to remove, these are used to replace the existing standard screws; this lessens the chances of the plates being stolen.
Hope we see you down there.
