Women and girls continue to be the victims of inequality, poverty and violence. The Soroptimist Programme of Service seeks to support initiatives and address issues that impact on Women and Girls at a local and national level, as well as through international communities.
We are committed to a world where women and girls together achieve their individual and collective potential, realise aspirations and have an equal voice in creating strong, peaceful communities worldwide.
We strive for: human rights for all; global peace and international good will; advancing women’s potential; integrity and democratic decision making. We do this through volunteering our skills and knowledge. We are a diverse group of Women from different ethnicities and vocational backgrounds and enjoy life-long friendships.
Our members are committed to enabling women and girls with equity and equality. To be able to live in safe healthy environments. To have access to education, leadership and practical skills.
Soroptimist members raise funds annually to assist in the improvement and status of women and girls.
Some of the projects we have worked on include ECPACT Child ALERT (the Eradication of Child Prostitution, and Child Trafficking), and encouraging low deciles school children to attend school on the North Shore. We are also proud to continue to supply the Women’s Refuge with second hand clothing and toiletries. For the last two years we have joined the City Mission Christmas appeal.
Some projects may only involve giving of our time such as utilising our sewing skills to make feminine hygiene kits and assisting Massey University with their annual gowning of students during their Graduation Ceremonies.
Soroptimist International is a vibrant, dynamic organisation for today’s professional and business women. If you would like to know more, or interested in becoming a member please contact me?
