Have you seen our new moa bones display yet?
You can now learn about the Moa hakahaka (Coastal moa) at Pūkaha thanks to our display of bones generously loaned from a local who found them on a Wairarapa farm in the 1970's.

Ohorere 👋
Ohorere is the first Tuatara to hatch at Pūkaha since 2005.
Named by one of our Cultural Advisors Mike Kawana, Ohorere means to be surprised or shocked in Te reo.

Ohorere 👋
Ohorere is the first Tuatara to hatch at Pūkaha since 2005.
Named by one of our Cultural Advisors Mike Kawana, Ohorere means to be surprised or shocked in Te reo.
Ohorere was found by a small class that noticed a hatched egg in our Tuatara enclosure.
This little guy took everyone by surprise even our Rangers and Staff!
Look at him sitting proudly, you may even see his little egg tooth if you look close enough👀.

It's that time of the year when fruits are blossoming and falling off our trees. 🍇
A good way to make sure it's free food for our kākā and not our pests could be to pick up a trap from the Pūkaha trap shop… just a thought. 🤔
