Ngongotaha Stream Care Team-join a team of people who care for and work in the Environment.  If you have always wanted to find your 'green fingers' this could be the opportunity that you have been waiting for.  The Team is supported by Progress Ngongotaha-Kokiri Ngongotaha Inc. under a 5 Year Stream Care Contract between Ngati Whakaue, Rotorua Lakes Council,  BOP Regional Council, and Progress Ngongotaha-Kokiri Ngongotaha Inc.

  • Local Young People

Ngongotaha Parawai Youth Centre (Project);  This is on hold and we Welcome expressions of interest.  We have a Plan drawn and a potential site available.  We still believe that our Rangatahi/young people need a 'Place' in our community.

  • Ngongotaha Local History

The Ngongotaha Life-Memories (Project) Stage 1-2 had been developing for the past few fivev years up until December 16 2021.  We had and still have the enthusiastic support of our local people. It was situated inside the Miss Viliana Crinkleton Village Store (op Post Shop) 180 Ngongotaha Road.  Today it still exists but is in storage awaiting its next 'Home' in Western Road.

All of the photos and stories are currently being uploaded to software called PastPerfect Software for Museums.  One volunteer is currently uploading information onto the software. This is not a website so it is not available for viewing. Hopefully we are only a matter of 12 -18 months before we open up again.

Ngongotaha Life Memories Museum;  is all about the Life of the early people who worked the land, dug and worked hard to create this Village and the surrounding rural areas, plus those who worked building the milling & rail industry, much of which is gone today.  Our NLM Museum works on 'people power' with local volunteers still looking out for stories and photos and waiting type them up.

We are also planning a Celebrity Trail, Ngongotaha has many people who have become Celebrities; sporting, hunting, fishing, foundation whanau and others.

  • Culture and Art

The Banners in the main street are an example of one of our Community Art Projects created in collaboration with the senior students from the Ngongotaha Primary School, Progress Ngongotaha Inc, and Rotorua Lakes Council.  The Banners flying in the main road are now our second round. We hope that you like them and they help you to feel included in 'Our Place'.  Our Place is Your Place !!

Other artworks throughout the Village include the Log situated in the Village Car Park, Train Artworks at the Ngongotaha Domain.

We are also involved in many discussions with Rotorua Lakes Council, so that your voice is heard.  Please let us know what you are concerned about and what you like.  We are continuing to push for changes to improve our experiences on our roads, including crossing areas on the main road through the Village.  We have volunteers who are interested in local happenings,' this team keep the 'banners flying' on issues of concern.  You are welcome to join them.

You are invited to join us in making a positive 'difference' in Ngongotaha, please phone Lynn 3574565 or 022 1404391  e: progressngongotaha@gmail.com
