The Oratia District Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association Inc. was established in 1952 by some of the original families in Oratia, to work alongside the Council in looking after the affairs of the district. Today, sixty years later, the names have changed but the job is the same. Anyone who lives or owns property in Oratia is a member. What do we do? The Oratia R&R advocates for its members, and represents their views to the Waitakere Ranges Local Board, the Council, and the Government on local environment and planning matters, or anything else members have an interest in. We make sure the community’s voice is heard. We lease the Oratia Settlers’ Hall, the Small Hall and their premises from the Council, and manage their hireage and maintenance. From time to time we arrange community events, and lend support to local events organised by others. How are we organised? The Oratia R&R is an Incorporated Society registered with the Companies Office. Every year the members elect a committee to run the Association and act on their behalf.
