HN Concerned Citizens as we were first known was formed in 2006 to respond to an HDC proposal to install parking meters in the Village, and to challenge the issuing of permits to a developer to build apartments in Te Mata and Napier Roads.
The HN community rallied and funded a successful judicial review of the Council decision to issue the permits for the apartments which resulted in them being withdrawn, and in the same year, after 4 polls of our ratepayers and our presenting an alternative proposal to Council, it agreed not to install the meters. The annual $23 parking levy you now pay, if a ratepayer, arose from that deal.
