Our Club was Chartered in 1976 and currently has a membership of 22 made up of both men and women . Our Club's focus is mainly on the local community where we aim to help enrich the lives of our residents through the support of local projects, schools, senior citizens and with a very strong bias to youth related programmes particulary in the fields of health & education.
Our major activities include an annual "Cycle for Life" ride, this year a Charity Dinner in support of the Youth Activities of the Bucklands Beach Yacht Club, Books in Homes for the Mt Richmond Special School, assist the Brain Injury Association with their Annual Picnic and a firewood project. We also give strong support to Camp Quality.
We support two Leo Clubs - Bucklands Beach Intermediate and Macleans College as well as the District's Young Speechmakers contest and organising our Zone's Young Ambassador Award project.
We welcome new members who are keen to support their local community.
Lions are ordinary men, women and young people from all walks of life who bridge religious, political, economic and social boundaries. They are united in their desire to make a difference by contributing their personal time and talents to help other people. Their motto is “We Serve”. In New Zealand about 10,000 members belong to 389 clubs in seven Districts. They are part of a worldwide network of 1.45 million Lions in 46,392 clubs in over 200 countries or regions. They are community volunteers who roll up their sleeves to help young people, elderly, the ailing, the needy and their environment. In terms of their time on projects and money raised, it is estimated Lions contribute more than $100 million each year for charitable organisations here and in the Pacific.
