Sea Scouting started in Onehunga in 1947 and in 1954 adopted the name Aotea Sea Scouts. (Aotea means white cloud or sunny place) The group originally had a "ship" down by the man made lake in Onehunga in the days before the motorway when this was foreshore. In 1976 Aotea moved to our current home in Orpheus Drive to make way for the motorway.
