Heart Of Te Atatu South festival - ON TOMORROW

Joseph from Te Atatu South

Some more information for TOMORROW'S Heart OF Te Atatu South festival (10am - 2pm - Te Atatu South Community Centre - Saturday March 9th). The festival is at the Te Atatu South Community Centre, 247 Edmonton Road (behind the St Johns ambulance station). The weather looks good for tomorrow 😎.

The festival this year is in a different position from last years. This year the main hall of the community centre will have market stalls, balloon twister, henna tattoo, free face painters and performances. Inside our community centre smaller hub room will be a small kids play zone (0-5 years) and tea and scones. Food stalls, rides, community information stalls, Sports Waitakere games and Auckland Transport bikes will be on the grass field behind the community centre main hall. Rides will be $2 each. 3 for $5. Tickets can be purchased from the festival/ HOTAS information booth. Please bring small change to make things easier. Out front of the community centre will be fire engine, police, community patrol, etc. This is detailed in the map below.

Additional parking will be available on the grass field behind the St Johns hall (last years festival site). The entrance to this carpark is at the bottom of the main Community Centre carpark. Mind the kerb on the way in. Walking or cycling up makes it easier. Most importantly, have fun tomorrow!!!😃

What workplace change would you like to see most?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

This coming Monday is Labour Day in New Zealand. This public holiday marks when the eight-hour workday and 48-hour workweek became law in 1899. The idea started with Samuel Parnell, a carpenter in Wellington, who in 1840 refused to work more than eight hours a day. Since skilled workers were in short supply, his employer had to agree.

As more skilled workers arrived, employers tried to change working conditions, but Parnell and others kept pushing for better rights. In 1890, Parnell led a Labour Day parade of 1,500 people to promote the eight-hour day. He passed away shortly after, and nine years later, Labour Day became an official public holiday.

Do you feel that we have reached the ideal in working environments yet? What rights are you passionate about relating to employment? Share your thoughts!
