Auckland taxpayers to pay extra $14.5 million to build America’s Cup village
The Auckland Council has voted in favour of spending the extra cash, after a budget blowout on the estimated cost of building the facility in time for racing in 2021. Auckland Mayor Phil Goff says while everyone agrees the blowout is unacceptable, there are benefits for the city and country. The Government is also increasing its contribution by the same amount.The Cup Village project will cost $152 million to build on the Auckland waterfront.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
