Council to install warning signs at Maraetai Wharf and Hunua Falls
The idyllic summertime of fun of jumping from wharfs and bridges into New Zealand's blue waters is hailed as a beloved part of "Kiwi culture". But a fast-rising toll of death and serious spinal injuries is now forcing leaden-footed authorities to take action. Auckland Council has apologised after being slow to respond, but now promises graphic warning signs.

This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
