About Morris & James Matakana

Using clay harvested from the banks of the Matakana river, Morris & James creates a vast selection of colourful ceramics, pots, home décor and gardenware, all created on-site in expansive buildings that house the showroom and pottery factory. A Matakana institution, Morris & James was established in 1977 by Ant Morris, and today is run by over 15 artisans and crafts people, who continue Ant’s legacy, whilst exploring new creative directions and uses for clay.

If you are interested in our story, join one of our daily factory tours at 11.30am (if you haven't already) and see first-hand how we go about creating iconic Morris & James ceramics. You could also grab a coffee or lunch at the on-site cafe & restaurant which has a beautiful outdoor setting, with a kids play area close by. Morris & James in Matakana is one of the few potteries of this scale in New Zealand.
