Always wanted to learn? Been playing for years but a bit stuck? Want to take your understanding of your instrument and music to the next level?
Since graduating in 2001 with a B.Mus from Wellington Jazz School, I have had a richly varied career as a freelance musician and composer. I am inspired by many kinds of music, and have performed in a wide range of genres such as jazz, blues, funk, manouche, pop, country, bluegrass, free improv, folk, Indian and Balkan music.
My main instruments are guitar and banjo and I write music for theatre, jazz groups, and original bands. I am best known for my work with all of Indian Ink Theatre Company’s productions of the past ten years: Krishnan’s Dairy, The Candlestickmaker, Dentist’s Chair, Guru Of Chai and Kiss The Fish. I am also known more recently for my show Wheel Of Experience, my original jazz ensemble Ruckus, and alt-country band The Broadsides.
I bring this broad pool of performance experience to my role as a music tutor. I have been teaching both privately and within teaching institutions for over 15 years, and I get great satisfaction from helping students grow musically.
As a teacher I encourage my students to play whatever music they love, while underpinning my lessons with a solid foundation of knowledge and practice. I try to inspire the student to explore their instrument, to see the fundamentals as windows into making music. I have experience teaching people of all ages, level of accomplishment, each with unique musical goals.
I have recently moved to New Lynn/Glen Eden area and have space for new guitar and banjo students. Any questions welcome!
