We’re keeping a close eye on the weather, at the moment it looks like the worst of it will stay off-shore down the east coast.
Please take care if you are out on the roads as there could be flooding, particularly in low lying coastal areas.
We have a high spring tide at 9.30am today and there may be some storm surge, please be vigilant in low lying areas.
If you are out and about remember to drive to the conditions and be extra alert for:
· Fallen trees
· Slips
· Drop outs
· Water over roads
· Roads slippery with gravel and clay
· Wandering stock
Remember to stay out of flood water – it is impossible to know for sure the state of the road underneath and how fast the water is moving.
This storm may also bring high winds, so it would be a good idea to secure anything that you think is likely to blow around – veranda furniture, umbrellas, that sort of thing.
If you find yourself in peril dial 111.
To report storm damage of the type outlined above ring Whangarei District Council on 09 430 4200.
Watch for more information on the Whangarei District Council facebook page.

The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists to plan ahead now for the possible closure of the Auckland Harbour Bridge if wind levels become strong later today.
Alternative routes between the city and North Shore will be via State Highway 16 and 18.
Auckland Highway Manager Brett Gliddon says closing the bridge would be unprecedented but if predicted winds of between 130-160km/h eventuate travel on the Harbour Bridge would be dangerous.
“Closing the bridge is not a decision we will take lightly because it will have a significant impact on traffic flows throughout the city, however our first priority is safety and that’s what will determine any closure,” says Mr Gliddon.
“If the bridge is closed to traffic this will have a flow-on effect across the rest of the motorway and local road network, so motorists should expect long delays, and avoid travelling if they don’t need to.”

Contractors are now working to clear the slip and are hoping to get one lane open to traffic later this afternoon.
The usual detour route of State Highway 10 through Kaeo is also closed due to flooding.
High tide is due at 9am and it’s hoped water levels will then start receding.
The Transport Agency is advising people to travel only if they really need to in the area and expect delays.

I get a fair whack of money from winz every week to pay for food as medicine and natural health suppliments to slow my multiple sclerosis. I have found out that mercury leaching into my body is causing my illness. Winz kamo are refusing to pay for the remedial dental work to possibly completely reverse my illness (1 in 4 experience full remission) with the excuse "u dont have enough money available to borrow" Winz beneficiaries can borrow upto $1500 at any 1 time. I have borrowed most of it for glasses, dental, to move, buy a bed etc. The point im making is, if you know me, i have a brain. I could be a good earner and no longer on a benefit. They are quibbling about 2 & a half grand vs me being on a beni for another 40 years. In various stages of munted. So thats my question : spend a bit more now to save my life, cure my chronic fatigue and barely working immunity or not remove the silver fillings & keep me existing. On the tax payer. For a very long time.
