Severe thunderstorm watch
MetService has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Northland.
Threat period: from 9:32am Monday to 12:00am Tuesday.
These thunderstorms may become severe, bringing damaging wind gusts of 110km/hr or stronger, with a few small tornadoes also possible. Wind gusts of this strength can cause some structural damage, including trees and power lines, and may make driving hazardous.
For information on preparing for and keeping safe during a storm, see the Civil Defence Get Ready Get Thru website.

Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?
With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.
