The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists in the Far North that it plans to go ahead with resurfacing State Highway 1 through the Mangamuka Gorge, starting this weekend.

However, in response to community feedback, it has changed the road closure times and days, says NZ Transport Agency System Manager, Steve Mutton.

The new plan is to close the road for four days at a time, instead of three.

The first closure, which is dependent on dry weather, will take place on:

Saturday, 24 February
Sunday 25 February
Monday 26 February
Tuesday 27 February.

On each day, the road will be:

Closed at 8:30am
Open 4pm–5pm

Riding a motorcycle or scooter inevitably carries more risk than driving a four-wheeled vehicle. And it turns out quite a lot of us have someone close to us who rides (in fact, 48% of Neighbourly members!)

If you worry about their safety, there is something you can do: encourage them to take Ride Forever coaching, provided (and heavily subsidised) by ACC. It's delivered by experts and it works, as Simon Gotlieb's story shows. Neighbourly members can book a FREE Ride Forever course before 31 March using promo code NEIGH18 over here.
