Do you have a friend or family member who doesn't have time to commit to a tertiary course but needs occasional help from a real published author?
Creative Writing Northland has launched in Whangārei, Dargaville and the Bay of Islands.
A collective of volunteer mentors, Creative Writing Northland assists aspiring writers of all ages to complete goals which they set themselves. Mentees will be matched with published writers, and each mentee will be assisted to set their own goals then work towards completing the goals.
It's a non-profit organisation and we keep costs as low as possible.
The first six mentors are all published authors and have won numerous awards between them. Jody Reynolds, Catherine Lea, Jenny Purchase, Janine Williams, Renee Liang and Michael Botur are ready and waiting to receive applications from those wanting a mentor. From Kamo to Kaikohe to Kaitaia, we can do our best to go where the learners are.

With torrential rain and flooding caused by an 'atmospheric river', should this event convince us all that climate change is real and we need to be taking action?

Hi Folks. I used to have a fantastic recipe for whole unpeeled clementine mandarins in syrup with star anise and cinnamon stick added. It has gone astray. Has anyone got such a recipe that dont mind sharing, or even whole limes in syrup? Thank you.

***UPDATE: Civil Defence has declared a 'state of emergency' for Northland as at 1pm Tuesday 31 January, for an initial period of seven days, as part of the response to the current weather event.***
Northland has a 'Red Heavy Rain Warning, as well as a Severe Thunderstorm and Strong Wind Watch for the region' as advised by MetService.
With heavy rain forecast on top of the constant heavy rain Northland has been experiencing, this may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly and become dangerous. Surface flooding, slips and flood water are likely to close roads and disrupt travel.
From Tuesday 31 January 4am to 4am Wednesday 01 Feb, MetService is forecasting between 100 to 140 mm of rain, especially in the North and East of the region. Though, localised areas may receive as much as 140 to 220 mm.
Northlanders are asked to stay informed of the changing situation, avoid travel and be prepared if an evacuation is needed.
