Uproar is a heart-warming tale about connection and finding your place in the world.

A quiet, English seaside town bears witness to a farcical and occasionally sinister scandal in this riotous mystery comedy.
Based on a true story from the 1920s, it tells of two neighbours: deeply conservative Edith and rowdy Irish migrant, Rose. When Edith and her neighbours begin to receive wicked letters full of unintentionally hilarious profanities, it is the foul-mouthed Rose who is arrested and charged with the crime.
The letters prompt a national uproar, and a trial ensues. However, as the town’s only police officer, Gladys begins to investigate, she suspects something is amiss, and Rose may not be the culprit. But Gladys needs Edith's help to find proof.

New Zealand Police are advising the public to be vigilant, after a handful of reports have been made in recent days. Unfortunately, at least two elderly Aucklanders have been conned out of tens of thousands of dollars.
Waitematā CIB’s Detective Senior Sergeant Ryan Bunting says scammers are cold calling, mainly on landlines, and claim to be a Police officer.“They will also provide a fake ID or badge number to make their call seem legitimate,” he says.“This person will carry on and provide a reason for their call: either they are investigating fake bank notes, or that your credit card has been cloned.
“As part of this scam, they will ask you to withdraw money from a nearby bank to be collected or ask you to provide further financial or banking information to aid their investigation.”
Be aware: this is a scam call.
Police are investigating two reports this week, in south Auckland and the North Shore, where two people have fallen victim to the scam. “Both victims withdrew cash from a bank and handed this over to someone who arrived at their door to collect it under the fake cover story,” Detective Senior Sergeant Bunting says.“These victims have had their good-will and trust trodden on by these scammers.”
Investigation staff have ensured there is support available for the victims. Detective Senior Sergeant Bunting says: “Scammers have no ethics whatsoever and will take any opportunity to try and con you.“These scams take many forms, and the offenders trick people under a variety of guises or storylines.”
There are occasions where legitimate Police officers will contact people as part of their duties, he says.
Police are asking the community to be aware and take the opportunity to spread the word amongst friends and family members. “We are particularly keen to ensure elder family members are aware of what is happening,” Detective Senior Sergeant Bunting says. “If anyone receives a call of this nature, hang up.
“If you have had the unfortunate position of being a victim to this scam and have not reported this, we encourage you to report this to Police.”
Please remember:
- Police will never call to ask you for bank details, pin numbers or passwords
- Police do not offer prize money
- Police will not ask you to go to a bank to withdraw money
- If you receive a call out of the blue of a similar nature: challenge the caller to identify themselves, ask for their details.
- Hang up, contact 105 to verify the ID and request the officer to contact you
- If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Winter brings a unique set of fire dangers that you need to be aware of. Follow these fire safety tips to help keep yourself and your family safe.
- Fireplaces and Chimneys
Clean chimneys and flues before you light the first fire of the season.
Always use a fireguard or spark-guard when using an open fire.
Never throw rubbish into the fireplace – particularly batteries and aerosol cans.
Always empty ashes and ashtrays into a metal bin and pour water over them before disposal. Remember that ashes can take up to 5 days to cool.
Keep matches, lighters and anything else that can create fire out of reach of children.
- Electric Blankets
Replace your electric blanket every 5 years with newer heat-protected models. Worn and old electric blankets can give you an electric shock and start a fire.
At the first sign of wear, have your electric blanket checked by a qualified electrician.
Don’t place heavy objects on the bed while the blanket is on and never sleep with it on.
Make sure the blanket is always flat on the bed and that controls or cords are not twisted or caught between the mattress and the base of the bed. Twisted cords are a common cause of electric blanket fires.
Roll your blanket when you store it for the summer, don’t fold it.
- Heaters and Clothes Dryers
Remember the ‘one metre from the heater’ rule – always keep furniture, curtains, clothes and children at least one metre away from heaters and fireplaces.
Never cover heating appliances or store objects on top of them.
Don’t overload clothes dryers and clean the lint filter after each load cycle.
- Portable LPG Gas Heaters
Check to see the gas hose is in good condition and doesn’t show signs of damage or wear.
If the heater does not light straight away, turn it off and then try again. Don’t let the gas build up before trying to relight it.
Always have fresh air coming into rooms where a gas heater is in use.
Have your heater serviced every 12 months.
