ARE POLITICIANS LISTENING – OR JUST TALKING?

Whangarei local Cherry Daly has been underwhelmed by the main parties' responses to her friends' and neighbours' concerns. She's attended candidate meetings and doesn't believe they understand the issues particular to her town. Gangs and P, she says, are the big ones. If the government addressed those, it would solve the downstream issues of housing, poverty and truancy.

"It's almost like the candidates are fighting the battles in the big cities and the regional areas are being overlooked."

****ATTENTION KAMO, ESPECIALLY MCMILLAN AVE AND TAIT STREET****

At approximately 3am lastnight my parents woke up to a horrible screeching sound. When they got up to see what was going on, they saw a dog and shooed it off their property. In the morning my mum woke to find her cat was not where he always is, and felt there was something wrong. She went looking for him at around 6:30am and found him not far down the road (tait street) by the kindy, DEAD. Stiff, and dirty like he had been dragged and with multiple puncture wounds to his neck and body.
This dog had killed my mums cat. As a dog owner myself this infuriates me. If you choose to have a dog in your care you need to be responsible!!! Fully fenced section or have it tied up etc. you cannot have your dog roaming the streets it is totally irresponsible and selfish.
My poor mother is absolutely devastated we have had this cat as a member of our family for around 11 years and he was attacked and killed on his own bloody property. He was the loveliest cat, super friendly and wouldn't hurt a fly. Never roamed, was just a big sook. He will be missed by so many people not just in our family.
Has anyone else had this happen to them in the area???
We have phoned animal control and they are getting onto it for us.
Come on guys, be responsible pet owners nobody should have to go through this.
