NZ thrash metal band Alien Weaponry, who are from Waipu, have announced they will be touring North America for the first time, supporting the band Ministry.
The tour starts November 21 in San Francisco, and runs through December 21 in Los Angeles.

The three teenagers, described by American music and youth culture channel Noisey as a band “well on their way to world domination,” got the news just before heading home from Europe.

“We are so excited to get this opportunity,” says lead singer and guitarist Lewis de Jong.
“We have been getting so many emails and comments and messages via social media asking us to come to the USA and Canada, we knew it was going to happen sooner or later, but this is a lot sooner than we expected.”

“Ministry was one of the bands we listened to a lot growing up,” adds drummer Henry de Jong. “So to be on stage with them on our first North American tour is going to be pretty amazing.”

They have to build 10,000 per year. Then a low-cost alternative such as a "TINY HOUSE" under 40sqms is a viable option. Therefore it needs Government and District councils to come up with an effective system for those with NO HOUSE. So they can get a home without expensive BUILDER Charges of $2,500 per Sq Metre.
HOW- Relax the restrictions on Sq. metre size-at the moment, NO PERMIT size is 10 sqms and Relax the House on SKIDS e.g Temporary Building to allow such a Home to be permitted up to 80 sqms with a WIDE LOAD Width of 3.5 metres. That way the house can be moved. Building Consent to be given on "Pleasing Design" not given on "EYESORE". Kia ora to problem-solving.

Mike’s here to help.

Often I’m called upon to capture and polish the words of people who have lived ordinary and extra-ordinary lives. I’ve helped people record stories about genealogy, family separation and reunion, war antics, careers, and lives in farming, letters and love.

My job is to make it easy to get senior citizens’ stories written before they’re gone.

Get in touch if you’d like me to sit with you or someone you care about and start writing. We can turn personal stories into:

The NZ Transport Agency has developed a tool that shows predicted traffic flow across popular journeys based on travel patterns from previous years. It can be found here.

Because predicted peak times can change based on incidents, weather and even driver behaviour we suggest that you check here before you leave for accurate information about current road and traffic conditions.

The holiday journeys site shows the busiest areas through Bay of Plenty and Waikato are expected to be the Kaimai Range, State Highway 2 between Paeroa and Waihi and State Highway 2 between Tauranga and Katikati, State Highway 1 north of Hamilton at Taupiri, State Highway 1 south of Cambridge at Karapiro, State Highway 2 at Maramarua and the Coromandel on State Highway 25 at Tairua and Kopu Bridge.

When driving this Labour Weekend, take care to:
- Drive to the conditions, whether it’s the weather, the time of day or amount of traffic
- Take regular breaks to stay alert and ensure fatigue doesn’t affect your driving
- Keep a safe following distance from vehicles in front so you can stop safely
- Be patient - overtaking is unlikely to make a significant difference to your journey time due to the amount of traffic expected over the weekend.
- Allow plenty of time, remember you are on holiday and avoid the need to rush
- Check your car is in good "health" before you head off.

Here are some tips to make sure you and your loved ones are well prepared and stay safe:

1. Check the marine weather forecast before you go out, it could save your life! 58% of boaties already check it. We want the other 42% to make it a habit. MetService New Zealand's Marine App makes it easy.

2. Tests your life jackets. Pull hard on the straps and see if any of them stretch or rip. Check all over for any existing tears in the straps and any cuts or punctures in the life jacket. If yes, do not use the life jacket, dispose of it, and replace it. Always check if it floats before putting them on. Keep in mind kapok life jackets should not be used as they can absorb water and sink, their cotton straps also easily rip! Burn them or bin them, but whatever you do - don't use or resell them.

3. For this year's Safer Boating Week, boaties are being reminded to “Prep, Check, Know” - prepare your boat, check your gear and know the rules before going on the water.

Let's put in the time and effort to make sure there are NO water related accidents or deaths this Labour Day long-weekend! Don't forget to look out for each other and report any concerns you have to local authorities.

A message from NZTA:
Motorists intending to go away for Labour Weekend are encouraged to plan ahead to stay safe and avoid delays on congested motorways.

The NZ Transport Agency has developed a tool that shows predicted traffic flow across popular journeys based on travel patterns from previous years. It can be found at www.nzta.govt.nz...

“Holiday weekends are always busy across Auckland and the Northland so congestion and delays are inevitable in peak times. But if everyone leaves plenty of time for their journey, drives to the conditions and plans ahead before leaving home, the worst of the frustrations can be eased and everyone can concentrate on arriving safely,” says the NZ Transport Agency’s Auckland Operations Manager, Rua Pani.

“Look for an alternative route or consider leaving when the traffic is lighter, either early in the morning or later in the day.”

Because predicted peak times can change based on incidents, weather and even driver behaviour we suggest that you check www.nzta.govt.nz... before you leave for accurate information about current road and traffic conditions.

The holiday journeys site shows the busiest time heading north from Auckland is on Friday between 1pm and 8pm. But historically, traffic is free flowing on Saturday morning if you leave before 8am. Coming home on Monday, expect the most traffic between 10am and 6pm.

Hi There, I'm looking for a group of interested people to help with setting up an area to grow butterflies near the dog park on Pohe Island. Last year the round bales that were made looked so picturesque at dusk, it sparked my imagination to have butterflies flying around.

The WDC has given approval and now we just need to plant swan plants and other butterfly food plants over time.

So, # i need some volunteers first up to pull up the kikuya in the area designated.
,
and # we need some swan plants to put in. I can get some for $15 per large plant, but donated ones would be awesome.
