While central government is consistently failing to deliver any meaningful policies to support the transition to low-emissions transport and is rather giving in to proponents of an archaic and unsustainable lifestyle, it's refreshing to see that local government is walking the talk. Please be aware that this restriction level includes a ban on sprinklers and irrigation systems. We are asking Whangārei households to reduce their water use by 20 per cent.
Voluntary measures have reduced water use by around 8 per cent over the last few weeks. It's a great start, but we still need more people to save more water NOW in order to make our reserves last.
