The opening of the Murupara pool this weekend will be marked by loads of family fun.

The pool traditionally opens for its summer season at Labour Weekend, and Whakatāne District Council Aquatics and Recreation Manager Lee Colquhoun says free entry, sausage sizzles and spot prizes will ensure that swimmers will have a great time.

“We’ll be open from 10 am till 6 pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday over the long weekend, and there’s an open invitation for the whole community to drop in and check out the upgraded changing rooms and facilities,” he says.

“Fingers crossed that the weather is co-operative, so that everyone can enjoy the facility and look forward to a great summer season.”

Mr Colquhoun says the pool will be heated to 30 degrees, so even the not-so-brave should be able to “get in the swim” without too much shivering!
