Many similar sized towns have a restful gardens area which through glass houses etc educate and inform the public on plants.garden areas suitable for family outings , walks in the park etc. I hope this is envisaged in the future for the at least one of reserves that council plans.
Rangiora is expanding quickly and places of greenness and peace will become even more necessary for rest and recreation including access to children's playgrounds and other facilities with gardens area.. The more people and less space to enjoy companionship and /or solitude, the greater the need for such public amenity. A source of employment for suitably qualified people and where children come from schools to learn as indicated above.
As the population expands further, Victoria park will not be large enough to cater for some events and the possibility of summer open air concerts etc in gardens environment and other events in such pleasant surroundings can be considered.
Note how quickly new housing subdivisions are springing up all around Rangiora the north west and south west now joining on with West park, one of the latest building projects on Oxford - Rangiora Rd. I hope others can see the future of such gardens in an area for development that will fill the need that people have for green and other colours of nature throughout the seasons.Refreshing and stress relieving when required .

On phoning the local Kaiapoi vets we were able to confirm they have had no cases recently reported to them. Hopefully the comments by a client were unfounded. But we at Glenstar take this very seriously.
Parvo virus can be fatal to the very young and elderly dogs particularly those who have not been vaccinated. It spreads rapidly. However it may be a timely reminder to check your dogs vaccination card and ensure they are fully vaccinated for this fatal disease. If boarding dogs over Christmas New Year it is also essential that Kennel cough vaccine which is yearly one is given at least 10 days before you go on holiday.

Hi everyone, been recommended versatill lawn care for the new lawn at our new place to control weeds on lawn. Keen to hear if anyone knows where to get this or another one or a natural product to use instead . I'm aware the grass can't be used in mulch for toms and spuds.
Cheers

For some older people Halloween can be a frightening and scary time so here are some helpful tips so everyone can enjoy themselves and come away with fond memories:
- Make it a family affair and go trick or treating with your kids or a group from your neighbourhood.
- Call your neighbours in advance to make sure it’s okay to call in to trick-or-treat
- If you don’t want trick-or-treaters calling print or make a sign for your letterbox or window saying no thanks. (New Zealand Police have had downloadable signs)
- If you are a trick-or-treater, respect the people who have a sign asking for you to stay away
- Keep your lights on and guests outside
- Keep your eye out for your older family members, friends and neighbours this Halloween and make sure we all get to enjoy the celebration.
Remember you can help make this a great celebration for your family and community and a great opportunity to connect with your older neighbours.
If you want to go one step further Age Concern New Zealand would like to encourage all Kiwis to sign up to their Dignity Champion Campaign to show a commitment to breaking down ageism and stereotypes and encouraging dignity and respect for older people.
Become an Age Concern Dignity Champion www.ageconcern.org.nz... this Halloween and involve and celebrate the older people in your lives.

We had a wide ranging discussion about the practicalities of setting the timebank up and whether there was a will to explore this further.
We concluded that there was sufficient interest to continue and to hold a further meeting to give those who couldn't come tonight a chance to hear further about the idea. One key conclusion from tonight's meeting was that we needed a strong, committed, interested group to support the idea.
We will try to organise a follow-up meeting in towards the end of November at a time and place which will make it possible for more people to attend.
Watch this space !!
