The established medical schools in Dunedin and Christchurch have been quoted as being against the new school, and the proposal for the potential medical school is being considered by current government. To me that is good as we do need more doctors as we lose quite a number as graduates head overseas in many cases. The need for more rural GPs is strong and amongst the criteria with new school is towards training with a view to rural GP work.
Personally I support this proposal and it has the potential to greatly assist with alleviating doctor shortages .
An article on Stuff ,co,nz today shows what views are backing the proposal and is worth a read.
I shall be interested to see what others think on this issue and whether or not they either support it or otherwise .
