Every weekday "Coatsie" would be on the grounds at Rangiora's MainPower Oval mowing the lawns, out by the workshop or simply having a yarn.
Coates died at Christchurch Hospital on August 12, aged 79, after a lung infection battle.

This is a fundraising event for the Ashley Community Church Inc., a Heritage NZ Category 2 Listed building, which is in need of repairs and restoration, to help retain its place in the district as a historical building. It is available to everyone for use and hire; for ceremonies, and any public or private events.

The Ashley Community Church is a listed Category 2 Heritage building managed as a registered charity on behalf of the wider community by a small committee.
