Canterbury drivers overestimate their ability and think other road users are the problem, new research shows.
A total of 1460 people from Kaikōura to Waitaki, including 497 from Christchurch, completed an online survey about their driving habits.
Findings showed 42 per cent rated their own driving ability as above average. The same group considered 73 per cent of other drivers to be only average drivers.

Philip Redmond received a Queen's Service Medal for services to the community at Government House last Friday.
The Investiture was conducted by the governor-general, Dame Patsy Reddy, and other recipients of awards included former Wellington mayor Kerry Prendergast and actor Robyn Malcolm.

The Investiture was conducted by the governor-general, Dame Patsy Reddy, and other recipients of awards included former Wellington mayor Kerry Prendergast and actor Robyn Malcolm.
The investiture was attended by Philip's family. Philip said it was the culmination of a lifetime's work serving the community and he was honoured to receive the award.
Dame Patsy was also aware of his local government work and congratulated him on his achievements.
Philip is a sitting Kaiapoi-Tuahiwi Community Board (KTCB) member, former lawyer and businessman, and is standing for election to the Waimakariri District Council and re-election to the KTCB.
