"If you really look around, you'll see two-and-half-year-old native shrubs with five to 10 cocoons attached to them, and you don't see many cocoons on the willows and poplars growing here," says park ranger Greg Stanley.

My favourite wine from this year’s New World Wine Awards is Stoneleigh’s Latitude Marlborough Chardonnay. It’s an excellent example of the Chardonnay style that customers are loving: rich, creamy and buttery, and full of stone fruit flavours. It goes well with dishes that have rich sauces like pasta or seafood and chicken. If Chardonnay isn’t your type, then give Lindauer Rosé a go – it’s a bottle of celebration and fun that’s good quality and at a great price.”
Come into your local New World and explore the Top 50 Gold-medal winning wines – we have winners for every budget. Plus join us for complimentary wine sampling and try before you buy.

The couple have three daughters - 12, 11 and 9 - who all attend Fernside School.
To help the family out, Saints is holding the largest functional fitness team challenge event they believe has ever been held in North Canterbury. Teams will have to complete 15 unique fitness/team building problem solving stations and gather points to win. All fitness levels are welcome, with the competition aimed more at fun and charity.
The Saints team is aiming to fill 15 teams of 10 people. All team members must make a donation to gain entry to the event, with all proceeds going to the Battersby family.
A large family-style barbecue and drinks will be provided to participants and supporters after the event, which kicks off at 10am on Sunday, October 20.
Saints owners Ash and Aaron McConville say Karl Battersby is a "consistent member" of the gym who goes to the 5am class every day.
"We truly do have a ridiculously unique close community, so putting an event together like this was easy," Aaron McConville says.
The team has already raised $7000 for the Battersby family. They do not have a target in mind, but have asked the wider public to "throw in whatever they can".

Nine candidates are after it - if the same ratio had been seeking seats on, say, the Kaiapoi-Tuahiwi Community Board, there would have been 45 candidates for that board.
In fact, despite the very real challenges, there is much to be enjoyed in the position, as with last week when I swore in 36 new New Zealand citizens. All mayors regard this as an important, and enjoyable, part of what they do.
The best part of the job is being out there with all of you at community events, whether I have a specific role, such as at a fire brigade gold star presentation, or whether I just turn up, as at the recent Woodend School Fair.
I have made a huge number of friends and acquaintances - I've got over 1600 contacts in my phone, most of them local. When I leave the mayoralty this weekend, those friends and acquaintances won't disappear.
I've enjoyed the variety of the position. Councils cover a huge range of activities and elected members have to make decisions about all of them. That, of course, gives them all some knowledge across what is going on the district. On top of that, our community has an even larger range of activity to be appreciated and enjoyed - some of it commercial (and that's important) and some of it voluntary. Without volunteers, our community couldn't operate and supporting them is a significant part of what a council does.
A great example of how our community works through volunteers is Roy Adams, who last weekend was awarded a double gold star for his service to the Kaiapoi Volunteer Fire Brigade - that's 50 years on constant call-out - think about it.
Finally, I want to thank all of you in the Waimakariri community for welcoming Marilyn and me wherever we have gone and for allowing me to have the best job I have ever had.
Kia ora koutou.
