Despite protests, a petition and a series of meetings, Woodend residents had become resigned to a 10-year wait after the NZ Transport Agency confirmed the bypass around their town was not on its short-term agenda.
But Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey said there was renewed vigour to fight for the project as the road was getting busier every year.

The High St station closed in September after earthquake strengthening concerns were raised during a refurbishment.
Canterbury rural area prevention manager Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Cottam says repairs to the High St police station are taking longer than expected.
"As always, police are contactable 24/7 by calling 111 in an emergency and 105 for all other non-emergency matters."
The temporary public counter will be open from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Environment Canterbury North Canterbury zone delivery manager Andrew Arps said the regional council was aware of three other large stockpiles of tyres – in Hororata, Leeston and the Ashburton area.
However, none were of a size ECan considered to be a problem, with the largest only about a tenth of the size of the Amberley stockpile.
