The small tourist town has been hit hard by Covid-19, with the Heritage Hotel closing permanently and several job losses at the hot pools.

New signage will help guide social distancing and a new entry process will ensure the safety of all customers. The pools will also operate at reduced hours, opening at 10am and closing at 6pm (instead of 9pm).
General manager Graeme Abbot urged people to support all Hanmer Springs businesses reopening under level 2, including accommodation providers, cafés, restaurants and shops. “We are now solely reliant on the domestic tourism market," he said.
