“Our school is growing quickly, and we need to have road crossings and a slower traffic area so that we can cross safely," they say.

Greystone Vineyard in Waipara, North Canterbury has been experimenting with the vineyard-treatment method for nearly 10 years, allowing the natural environment and temperatures to affect wines and shape them differently from strain to strain.
The process was formalised and made part of a research study by Lincoln University PhD student Constanza Iversen in 2019, who analyses each step of the process to determine what makes the wines shape themselves in different ways, and how wines can be altered using natural elements.

Did you know...
“Although New Zealand is believed to have been the first country in the world to give women the right to sit in Parliament, it is one of the few which have consistently refused to elect a woman to its national assembly,” The Press wrote on September 14, 1933.
“Legislation permitting women to stand for Parliament was introduced in 1919 by the then Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey, and subsequently passed.”
Lyttelton MP Elizabeth McCombs had just shattered that glass ceiling after a by-election, becoming New Zealand’s first woman MP.
She had previously run as the Labour candidate in Kaiapoi and Christchurch North and became the Lyttelton candidate in a by-election after the death of her husband, James, who had held the seat since 1913.
The Press noted that “Mrs McCombs’s majority is larger than any Mr McCombs secured during his whole 20 years in Parliament”.
The Press reported from a packed Returned Soldiers’ Association Hall in Lyttelton.
“‘This is the proudest moment of my life,’ said Mrs McCombs, ‘but yet one of the saddest. You all know that my husband wished more than anything else on earth that I should sit in Parliament, and we had both hoped we should sit there together. I cannot help feeling a tinge of bitterness that it was not to be.’
McCombs died before the 1935 election, and was succeeded by her son, Sir Terence McCombs, who held the Lyttelton seat until 1951.

Is there such thing as a healthy Friday night takeaway?
Nolan and Julz McGaw are aiming to prove there is through their new vegan food truck called Planted, which launches on Friday evening in Woodend, North Canterbury.
The McGaws are passionate vegans, but that has not always been the case. Julz McGaw was a dairy farmer and Nolan McGaw was once a meat-fuelled bodybuilder.
Pies, cakes, hot dogs and burgers are all on the food truck menu, but with a healthier vegan twist.
The idea was to provide cheap and easy takeaway options, with less fat.
The food truck officially opens at 73 Main North Rd on Friday, from 4pm to 9pm. It opens at the same location every Thursday and Friday onwards from 4pm to 9pm.
Will you give it a try?

Andrew Luddington is hoping he will have a little luck when he takes on a gruelling ride from Christchurch to Akaroa, all while dressed as Darth Vader.
Luddington is preparing to transform into the Star Wars villain for the upcoming 100-kilometre Miles Continental Le Race cycle event, on an all-steel, 12-speed bike from 1978.
The 55-year-old will be among hundreds of participants at the start line on Saturday, blasting Star Wars music from a megaphone attached to his 40-year-old bike while in full Sith Lord attire.
