Locking up and leaving for adventure

If youโ€™ve seen the current Ryman TV commercial, then youโ€™ve probably seen Judy rowing past the camera on a beautiful still Auckland morning.

Rowing is one of Judyโ€™s passions, and sheโ€™s had great success with it, competing up and down the country since picking up the sport in her 50s. A highlight in her rowing career was in 2017 when Judy, along with her rowing partner Alison, competed in The World Masters Games, winning a silver medal in the 1000m Womenโ€™s Pairs.

She currently holds the title of top women's single sculler in the 70-75 year age group in New Zealand and is second in the North Island for the 65-75 year age group.

Adventure is in Judyโ€™s DNA. Sheโ€™s always up for hitting the open road and exploring the fantastic wilderness that Aotearoa has to offer. When sheโ€™s not rowing, Judy loves to hike. And sheโ€™s no stranger to several hard South Island trails.

Having a lifestyle this active and busy means that Judy doesnโ€™t want to be worrying about her home while she is away. She chose Rymanโ€™s Murray Halberg Village because it suits all her needs, right down to the location near the water as well as all the safety and security benefits.

โ€œItโ€™s a lock up and leave it situation,โ€ she says.

Downsize to a richer, happier life

Rita Angus Retirement Village

What do you want to do with your life? Would you like to travel, downsize, have more money and more free time? Do you ever feel like your stuff holds you back, but the thought of decluttering just seems too hard? If so, youโ€™re not alone.

What do you want to do with your life? Would you like to travel, downsize, have more money and more free time? Do you ever feel like your stuff holds you back, but the thought of decluttering just seems too hard? If so, youโ€™re not alone.

This is the first of a series of articles dedicated to helping you to downsize, declutter and rightsize your life, brought to you by Ryman Healthcare in conjunction with decluttering expert Peter Walsh.
When helping people to declutter, Peter never starts by focusing on the stuff itself. Every item in your home has a story, so the first step is to think about what that story is.

Maybe youโ€™re thinking about downsizing as you approach retirement but still have all the artwork and toys and books that belonged to your now adult children, and donโ€™t know what to do with them. Perhaps letting go of that old sports equipment means letting go of a vision you had of yourself that no longer fits who you are. Maybe youโ€™re holding onto heirlooms you have no use for because you want to keep the memory of the person alive.

No matter what your situation is, itโ€™s easier to declutter and downsize if you start by identifying the feelings that underlie your attachment to your stuff before tackling the stuff itself.

Kiaora everyone!

This is the last weekend I'll be opening the pop-up sale. It's being held at 76 Salamanca Rd, across from Kelburn Park, today & tomorrow.

Come by & say hello! I have beautiful handmade festive decorations, jewellery, candles, & more. Lovely new books, delicious baking & a selection of gorgeous vintage pieces that you won't find anywhere else.

I also have a selection of pieces from the talented 'Ruby Crochets'. A Wellington maker who specialises in wearable crochet with a 70s flavour.

Gift wrapping's available, cash & bank transfers accepted. It's a wonderful way to support a creative neighbour, or just meet some more people in the area. I'd love to see you. Mere Kirihimete!
