• The fleece of sheep has been used to make human clothing since the Stone Age.
• Wool flourishes where there is rain and sunshine. These two elements sustain the grassy fields that sheep graze on. Shearers shave off the wool every year before the weather gets too hot. Wool is the ultimate renewable fibre.
• Wool from about 61 sheep extend all the way from the earth to the moon.
• Wool may be made from mixtures of hair from sheep, alpaca, llama, camel, cashmere, mohair, angora, vicuna, yak, guanaco, beaver or otter. No animals are harmed in the harvesting of wool.
• Wool is flame-resistant. It will not melt and stick to your skin like synthetic fibres. Instead, wool will usually smoulder and extinguish itself when the source of the flame has been removed. The fibre of choice for casinos and airlines.
• The fastest recorded time to shear a sheep is 39.31 seconds by Hilton Barrett of Australia.
• Wool is composed of same protein that makes up the outer protective layer of your skin.
• Have you ever wondered why your wool socks withstand foot stench longer than cotton or synthetic socks? Wool is naturally mildew and mould resistant because it is a natural moisture repellent, MEANING LESS STINK. Wool also reduces dust mite activity (they do not like wool!).

• Over its lifetime, a sheep’s fleece will absorb approximately 30Kg of carbon dioxide.

Every journey begins and ends with a single step. On Sunday the 22nd November 2020, Alex embarked on a 132-day, 3000km journey that took him walking from Cape Reinga to Bluff.

Along the way, he was humbled by the ever-changing landscapes he moved through and the endlessly generous people he met. Join Alex as he shares some photos of the trail and reflections on the meaning of adventure, growth and simplicity which he discovered through putting one foot in front of the other.

He will be speaking at the worship service from 10am on Sunday 31st October, at St Ninian’s Uniting Church, Karori.

The service will also be virtually accessible via zoom. All are welcome!

In light of ShakeOut, New Zealand's national earthquake drill, we thought we would share the progress of one of our milestone projects; Omāroro Reservoir. 👷

The Omāroro reservoir project is one of the ways Wellington Water is working to make our water network more resilient in the event of disruption or disaster. The new 35 million litre reservoir is set to more than double Wellington City's stored water supply. Our crews have been hard at work and resurrected 34 walls and one column in recent weeks. You can see the sheer scale of the reservoir walls in the photos below! 🏗

Remember, after a big shake the pipes could be broken and while our crews work to repair them you'll need to rely on your emergency stored water supply. We recommend 20 litres of water per person, per day. 💧

A new bill supported by both major parties strips red tape from the building process in an effort to accelerate medium-density housing.
The rule change will allow people to build up to three homes of three storeys on most sites in Wellington without any need for resource consent from August 2022.
