We want to say a huge thank you to the incredible OneSight team who have recently spent time at five Salvation Army centres around the country providing free eye tests and glasses to Kiwis who are unable to afford them.

624 people were seen over five days with nearly 70% needing glasses. Amazingly, 150 people attending the clinics were are able to leave with their new glasses which were manufactured on site!

OneSight Programme Manager for Australia/New Zealand Jenny Harnett says it was an honour to partner with The Salvation Army to deliver these clinics to communities in need. “We believe that glasses unlock potential, providing opportunities for students to learn, for people to work and earn a living, to drive, to read, and to support their families."

Thanks again OneSight!

This boutique hotel offers a new owner the opportunity to combine a healthy and diverse lifestyle with an interesting and profitable business which naturally scales down during winter, allowing for a holiday.

Each of the five beautifully appointed suites has been subtly themed, providing individual charm as well as comfort. In the heart of the lodge is a spacious, recently renovated farmhouse kitchen enjoying garden and orchard views. A large woodburner with wetback heats the water for a series of radiators around the house, ensuring year-round warmth.

Organically managed, the four-hectare property provides the ability to live from the land with honey, fruit trees, berry patches, vegetable gardens, olives and grazing for sheep, cattle and horses. The small Chardonnay vineyard with a careful selection of clones produces a succulent house wine thoroughly enjoyed by guests from all around the world.

A range of useful ancillary sheds and buildings offers space for projects, hobbies, storage and accommodation for staff. Other facilities on the property include a petanque court, croquet lawn and small gymnasium overlooking the swimming pool.

This extraordinarily diverse and unique lifestyle is ideally located on State Highway One, less than a five-minute drive from central Blenheim and 15 minutes from numerous winery cellar doors, restaurants and the airport.

Postal voting has closed. It's too late now to post your ballots for Wellington Mayor, WCC, GWRC and CCDHB, as they may not reach Christchurch in time to be counted. But you can still drop them off in WCC libraries up until noon Saturday, or preferably earlier.

Reading the candidates' 150 word statements in the booklet that came with your voting papers may take you 15-20 minutes. Then all you have to do is rank the candidates - follow the instructions on the ballot papers very carefully.

So, 30 minutes of your time is a good investment if you want to live in a well-run city and region.

Just do it!

Dame Fiona Kidman and the Turnbull collections
Dame Fiona Kidman is a literary star and a much-loved author of many award-winning novels. She has been using Turnbull resources — and also contributing to them — for nearly fifty years. She says her books such as the historical novels 'The Captive Wife', 'The Infinite Air' and 'This Mortal Boy' would have been impossible without access to the Turnbull’s amazing collections.

Fiona was both secretary and chair of many organisations, including PEN (NZ) — now the NZ Society of Authors including PEN; and the NZ Book Council; as well as producer of RNZ's 'Writing' programme for 7 years. Over the years she accumulated a large body of personal correspondence and recordings from literary luminaries, including Dame Ngaio Marsh, Frank Sargeson, Janet Frame, Denis Glover and others, as well as artists, educators and politicians. She describes herself as a hoarder, but this significant body of correspondence, tapes and personal manuscripts has all found its way to the Turnbull.

Fiona will talk about some of the material she has gathered over her life.

You'll need to post your voting papers by tomorrow Tuesday 8 October, to ensure they'll be received for counting by noon on Saturday (12 Oct). But you can also drop them into libraries right up to Saturday. And if you don't have voting papers, go online to the Wellington City Council's website or ring them to get yours or find out whether you're eligible. You will need to do it in the next few days.

I am standing for re-election to the Wellington Constituency of GWRC and for re-election to CCDHB. I am happy to answer any last-minute questions about my policies if you wish. Happy voting!
